Stress is a common phenomenon that is experienced by human beings in all generations. Moderate stress is considered an important aspect in helping individuals become more productive. However, Jackson (2014) indicates that unmitigated stress can lead to health complications such as hypertension, heart disease, and depression which affect the happiness and health of the populace. Rajesh et al. (2014) define stress as psychophysiological strain emanating from physical and psychosocial demands. While emotional challenges have always existed throughout human life, people in the modern age face higher psychosocial demands which have increased the rate of stress-related problems. Therefore, stress is not a phenomenon of the modern age but the technological and economic advancements in the present age aggravate the mental and social strain among people.
Stress has become quite prevalent in the modern age due to family, technological, and economic changes. Rajesh et al. (2014) indicate that stress is among the most challenging health complications of the information age. According to Jackson (2014), the rapid social, cultural, and technological progression in the 21st century makes it difficult for people to cope with work and wealth accumulation leading to high levels of stress. Moreover, individuals are required to process high amounts of data in the information age to attain success within the social and career settings.
