Introduction
From the general outline of different environmental structures, it is clear to indicate that there are various grievances that result from the water bodies. As well, the problems may be natural as well as artificial challenges. They directly or indirectly influence the living standards of individuals as they also affect the biological structure of the area. As this increases, all the activities carried out along and in the ocean need to be stopped. It is a strange invasion thus threatening the livelihood of various residents. In this chapter; challenges and problems associated with the changes, evidence for their occurrence and analysis of various effects are discussed.
With increased dead zones on the ocean, it has been a threat to the oceanic economic activities. It has disrupted all the activities enchanting in the regions as marine creature migrate because dead zone does not support life (Gaughen, 2005). It is due to less dissolution of oxygen into the water thus sea animals lack adequate oxygen that is an essential factor for living things. The animals may also be forced to migrate in search of conducive environments.
The regions can develop naturally without induction by human activities. However, most of the hypoxic zones are usually as a consequence of human deeds from biological as well as chemical factors. Once the factors have combined, they form a single zone referred to as a dead zone (Stein, 2002). However, firm nutrients such as fertilizer are among the contributing factors of dead zones formation. Once they have been swept from the firms by the running water and later drained into the water streams, they results into acidification of the water. As they are drained into the ocean, they become life threats to aquatic animals thus challenging their lives. This makes them to migrate looking for better places. Dead zones are widespread in the ocean as they form in any part of the ocean (Harf & Lombardi, 2012). However, the largest dead zone is located in USA, in the Gulf of Mexico to the north.
The changes effects on the ocean trends
Estimations are not essential aspect in explorations, and there ought to be analytical study of the prevailing dead zone forces in order to come up with substantial gene of supporting the outcomes (Woodard, 2000). As water on the ocean gets warm, diminution in of oxygen in the water reduces. From the decomposition of materials, fossils are usually formed thus realizing more carbon dioxide which is toxic. As coral develops on the water bodies, they affect the bleeding of sea creatures around the area (Williams, 2013).
From a research carried out by national ocean service, the research shows that, sea levels of oxygen have been decreasing due to global warming effects from the increased outlet of carbon dioxide gases. As it happens, there is warming of oceanic water thus affecting oxygen volume into the water. It will end up taking some more years for the reduction of the oxygen effects to be fully felt as the water in oceans takes longer to heat as compared to air and land masses (Salomon & Tanape, 2011). On the reduction of oxygen on surface water, there are relatively high chances of slowing down of deep water warming effects. According to National Geographic news, there has been an increased formation of dead zones in the the Polar Regions as a result of deposition of gases from different region of the world (Williams, 2013).
Biological effects
As the level of oxygen reduces, there are difficulties in the ocean water in supporting marine animals (Roberts, 2012). This in return results to death of most of the animals thus reduction in the number of sea animals. Existence of aquatic creatures is attributed to various fields such as economic, social and cultural sectors among them being fish industries and tourism sectors.
Increase in anoxic zones affects biological production in oceanic waters. As the level of nitrate, which is a form of nitrogen nutrient, reduces, the population of nitrate consuming marine animals reduces as there is reduced food intake in the water bodies (Pugh, 2004). Planktons are usually given space by selfish and fish that would rather be dwelling in the areas as they are capable of drawing dissolved nitrogen from the water. In the Gulf of Mexico, algae have blossomed as a result of agricultural products being deposited into the ocean.
Egendorf (2010), these effects of the greenhouse gases effects on global warming structure can be evidenced by the melting of ice environs into oceans and sea bodies. In Polar Regions, most of the ice-covered areas have changed into seas due to ice melting from the increased heat.
