The Effects of Video Games in the Modern Time

In the past, children learned to play using various means, such as climbing trees and playing in the mud. Today, technology has enabled anyone to participate actively in various activities. Therefore, learning is no longer confined to books as children can play. Even adults are now able to learn by watching videos. However, there can be an impact on their performance in a game environment.


The first-way video games influence learning is by providing a unique opportunity to engage in different types of gameplays. Some studies show that people who play video games have higher self-esteem than those who do not (Yamaguchi & Nieda, 2020). They also possess better cognitive skills, including multitasking, decision-making, problem-solving, judgmental reasoning, and flexibility (Yamaguchi & Nieda, 2020). All these capabilities are beneficial because they make gamers more effective learners. In other words, they are better at thinking about new problems and solutions than their non-video gaming counterparts.
