Roosevelt was elected president, Democrats devised a New Deal primarily emphasizing minority groups. Both the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) were examples of New Deal initiatives that provided opportunities for people from underrepresented groups. Employing underrepresented groups was one way the CCC sought to preserve the nation's natural resources (Feinberg & Michael Schuller, 2019). The African Americans in North Carolina contributed to the development of roads and railroad tracks. They were able to avert forest fires by removing dead tree trunks and were compensated with thirty dollars by the government. They were given food, lodging, and education because the CCC had a regulation prohibiting recruiting based on race or religion, which worked out quite well for the underrepresented groups and favored them. The WPA prioritized the mental health and general well-being of underserved communities by working to alleviate these groups' psychological, social, and financial strains. An estimated 15% of WPA workers were immigrants, and other workers faced discrimination based on color. It had federal music and theater initiatives that promoted the abilities of African American performers and musicians without showing any preference for either group. Due to the WPA, women could work in clerical labor, canning, and even libraries (Peters, 2021). The WPA and the CCC helped end the Great Depression and get the economy back on track. The nation's economy began its road to recovery due to these two initiatives that gave minorities the opportunity to work on a variety of public construction projects. People's ability to spend money was increased due to the WPA's provision of employment possibilities in fields like gardening, clerical work, and library work for underrepresented groups.
