Arguably, Fitzgerald’s works of art, The Great Gatsby is one of the most fascinating pieces in the literature world, particularly in the United States. Set in the mid-20s on Long Island, the novel takes center stage of the love affairs between the main character Jay Gatsby and Daisy. Consequently, the current paper takes a look at how Fitzgerald explored the theme of love and marriage in the novel The Great Gatsby.
Primarily, Fitzgerald successfully developed the theme of love by showcasing the overall challenges that various characters went through in trying to find their true love. In this light, Gatsby is determined to win Daisy back; therefore, love is almost futile because Gatsby’s efforts were incongruous (Hodo.). Hugely, the author wanted the readers to get a picture or understand that people do not get what they want in life, particularly when love is involved. Moreover, the author wanted to showcase how humans often face rejection when they show their romantic interest in their partners. While Gatsby’s love story is portrayed as imaginary, it as well outlines the ideal perspective of a love that is unattainable.
