The two-party political system of the United Sates has worked for the country since its formation. There is no denying that it provides stability and allows for easy moderation of the electoral process. However, the downsides to such a system are too large to ignore. Most of the global community is aligned with the multiple-party political systems that advocate democracy and fairness. The issue with having democrats and republicans as the only two parties is that there is lack of fairness (Murray, 2011). Consequentially, the ideals of democracy are not realized in such a scenario. The US system makes it difficult for the aspect of political equality and representation to be achieved. The reason is that there is a group of people that will always feel marginalized. Most of the politics and thus decision-making is solely controlled by the party that dominates based on the popularity vote. In this case, the minorities will always be left out. The US electoral system makes the small group of people not represented in the government to feel unwanted because it operates on the winner-takes-it-all basis. The system demands that an individual is either in the former or in the latter. Giving voters two options is an unhealthy for power balance. The third party will present a new choice for the people who feel trapped, or rather, forced to belong to either party. They will have a new avenue to air their views.
Most of the USA government officials are either democrats or republicans. They control all the voting means and processes, which makes it difficult for third parties to come up. Circumstantially, the third party would be forced to collect thousands of signatures in a populace that is already dominated by the two. The officials might have an interest in keeping the duo system because of the issue of power. Therefore, making a third party relevant will break the cycle and ensure that the small numbers have a voice (Watts, 2006). There are people who may have strong feelings towards an issue of national importa...
