Tuck & Art Go Uptown is a Delightful Short Film
Tuck & Art Go Uptown is a delightful short film that follows the misadventures of two best friends as they navigate their way through the big city. In episode 2 of Tuck Art Go Uptown, we follow artist Tuck as he goes about his day, painting and enjoying the sights of New York City. Tuck is a talented artist with a great eye for colour and composition, and in this episode, we get to see him in action as he works on a new piece. We also get a glimpse into his life and how he balances his time between painting and spending time with his family. This episode is a great opportunity to see a talented artist at work and get a behind-the-scenes look at how he creates his art.
The narrative of Tuck Art Go Uptown is based on the 3-act structure. The first act introduces the characters and the conflict. The second act is the journey or quest that the characters go on to resolve the conflict. The third act is the resolution of the conflict and the return to the status quo (Keerdo-Dawson, 2022). The mise-en-scène in Tuck Art Go Uptown episode 2 creates a realistic and believable world for the characters. The setting is an inner-city neighbourhood, and the film makers use realistic props and set design to create a believable environment. The characters are also well-developed and believable, and the film makers use the mise-en-scène to help build their characters. For example, the character of Tuck is introduced in a scene where he is working on an instrument practice. This scene helps to establish Tuck as an artist, and also helps to establish the setting as an inner-city neighbourhood. The mise-en-scène in this film is used effectively to create a believable and realistic world for the characters.
Some directorial components that can be used to create emotion, meaning, and narrative are shot selection, camera angles, editing, and soundtrack. Shot selection is the process of choosing which shots to use in a film or video. The shots that are chosen should support the story that the director is trying to tell (Dmytryk, 2018). The shots that are used in the story of Tuck and Go Uptown help to create a sense of adventure and discovery. The shots of the cityscape and the characters exploring help to create a sense of wonder and excitement. The way the camera is positioned in a scene can affect the way the viewer perceives the characters and the events. For the case of the story Tuck Art Go Uptown episode 2, the camera angle when Tuck is talking to the art gallery owner is very close up and intimate. This creates a sense of closeness and connection between the characters.
During editing, you decide which shots to keep and how they should be sequenced. The initial viewing of a narrative should not provoke a critical response but rather an emotional one (Dmytryk,2018). The editing of a scene can have a profound impact on the story's tone, significance, and progression. Tuck's conversation with the gallery owner is edited for maximum closeness and emotional impact. Because of this, the audience feels more invested in the characters' lives. The tone of this film is light-hearted and comedic, and the style is that of a mockumentary. The method of directing employed is mostly handheld camera work, which gives the film a more intimate and personal feel. The director uses a comedic tone in order to poke fun at the art world. The mockumentary style is also used by the director to satirize the art world.
