The soft drinks industry has been stagnant for quite a while now. This is because there have been the bigger companies who have controlled much of the market, at the expense of the smaller ones that seem to be nonexistent. This has meant that the consumers have had to work with the prices set by these oligopolies since they are the companies that run the show and hence set the rules for the rest of the market. In most cases, these oligopolies always set their prices to be quite high, thereby completely disregarding the particular needs of the whole market.
High prices mean that only the upper class and some middle class members of the society will be able to afford these energy drinks. Typically, the average price of a good energy drink is around $2. This is rather high, considering that average hourly pay is $8. It means that for one to enjoy an energy drink with family, they will have to forfeit a significant amount of their income. To make it worse, this would only be for a simple energy drink, without counting any meals or food that they might also need. Only the high income earners can comfortable afford such drinks in numbers due to their financial flexibility. It becomes almost an untouchable product for low income earners. This price ensures that consumers across the segment can easily and comfortable afford the drink without having to put pressure on their pockets.
Additionally, the current generation has become quite aware of the health impacts of the foods that they consume. This is especially so for the older population, most of whom must be suffering from one health problem or the other.
