What City Would You Like to Live in and Why?
I reside in the UK today, but my plan is to live and work in South Africa, especially in Johannesburg. A majority of people would want to live in major cities, such as New York, Paris, Berlin, and London. I am always surprised by my relatives who live in the US for their insistence on coming to the UK to visit some of the fascinating tourist attractions in London. While I respect their feelings, my preference lies elsewhere. Although London is one of the best cities in the world, I would not like to stay in it for a long time. Instead, I would want to live in Johannesburg owing to its history of forgiveness, diverse society, and advanced technology.
As a sociologist and human rights activist, living in Johannesburg would empower me better than residing in the UK. In the history of colonization, South Africa will remain a celebrated country because of the manner in which its leadership handled the colonial masters. Like other people in Africa, South Africans were subjected to humiliating and oppressive practices by the British administration. For example, racial segregation, gender stereotypes, and economic and political discrimination were widespread during the colonial period (Clark & Worger, 2016).
