Attending theatre is still relevant despite living in a digital ear where people rely on the use of virtual reality and 3D. There are various reasons why people attend theatre despite living in the ear of 3D and virtual reality. The reasons lie in the advantages of theatres.
Attending theatre helps people see a different perspective from their own because they get to see, conflicts, resolutions and motivations in people. Theatre provides a platform where people can meet as an audience thus reminding them that they are not alone (Meeks, Vandenbroucke & Shryock, 2020). The platform helps improve their mental health, especially for the elderly. Theatre provides people space and helps them share experiences with those that are performing. The 3D and virtual realities do not provide the audience a sense of participation thus do not have the same intimacy and experience of human connection. The audience needs to share experiences with live actors for it promotes appreciation of art and talent.
People attend theatre because it helps promote social change, discourse, and dialogue. After all, theatre is a cultural phenomenon. Theatre acts as a mirror where people can examine themselves through the actors and performing artists. Attending theatre provided people with an opportunity to identify societal problems and establish possible solutions (Freebody et al., 2018) Theatres promotes dialogue by allowing people to come together as a community and listen to people`s diverse views and opinions.
