To determine the effects of lifestyle on cancer prevalence, epidemiologists analyze the effects of dietary and formal employment prevailing in a particular community. Here, individuals from communities that insist on the traditional diet with limited unsaturated fat are compared with individuals who consume food with high content of unsaturated fat after which cancer prevalence is determined (Friborg, & Melbye, 2008). The lifestyle adopted by an individual has also analyzed more so the influence of dormant and active lifestyle. This lifestyle is then compared to technological development that has led to a more dormant lifestyle. From the findings of the analysis, it is possible to correlate cancer prevalence to the above parameters.
To determine the effects of the environment on cancer prevalence, the epidemiologists analyze the effects of contaminants, especially organic contaminants and heavy metals, surrounding a particular community. These sets of data include a comparison between cancer cases between fish-eating communities near polluted waters and their counterparts in non-polluted areas. The effects of these pollutants are analyzed and the findings compared with the results of the communities not affected by such pollutants. From such findings, it is possible to derive the relationship between lung, kidney, and the central nervous system (CNS) cancers.
