Introduction
Cardiovascular disease (henceforth referred to as CVD) is a burden for countries such as Africa and the Middle East according to Almahmeed et al. (2012) mainly due to the fact that it is promoted by the prevalence of a high-risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, hypertension and the type of inactive lifestyle that has been adopted by the people in the Middle East and Africa. It is important to note that CVD is a term that is used in reference to a disorder condition of the heart muscle and blood vessels, both arteries and veins included. United Arab Emirates is rapidly becoming a wealthy nation due to its growth and urbanization Some examples are coronary heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease, peripheral vascular disease and stroke. CVD could be fatal (Cardiovascular Diseases, 2015).
METHODOLOGY
Research Approach
This research was carried out by qualitative approach. This method incorporates the three major qualitative methods that include observations, the in-depth interviews, and the use of focus groups. The observations methods include visiting the CVD patients in hospitals and at their homes. Secondly, keen interest will be taken on interviews in which a qualified healthcare worker will question patients of CVD. The questions selected for the interviews will be broad enough to allow for open answers, whereby, the interviewees will be given enough time to express their views and experience of the disease condition in details.
Literature research strategy
The applied search strategy will identify and determine that sources of secondary materials. The secondary materials will assist in developing the literature overview information that will be helpful in guiding the entire research. Although these materials will not be part of the findings, they are essential in providing primary knowledge about the road from the existing literature. The materials will be searched and examined and also the keywords that will be used in the when searching for the data (Kuada, 2012). A thorough research was conducted for the purpose of this paper. All the literature materials identified contain data on cardiovascular disease in the United Arab Emirates. Most of the materials obtained have information on the response the patients and those working healthcare industry gave. All the information was searched in sources such as PubMed, EBSCO, CINAHL, medical journals, the ministry of health and world health organization among others. Resources from Wikipedia and blogs were not used.
Kuada, J. E. (2012) states that the literature searches in the Systematic review must be profound, thoughtful, and sensitive, meaning they must have as many quality studies as possible. For the research to be of the recommended status, the literature searches must be precise and well detailed. Another important factor in Systematic research is the Literature search terms and keywords. Before commencing carrying out a search, it is important to identify the most relevant search terms and the keywords. In this research, review important words such as the intervention, comparison, population, and outcome has been put into consideration. The search terms have been applied in this case study. In this paper, identifying and determining the search key terms was the first literature search process. Later the keywords were identified. Although Arabic is the official language, all the publications identified were in English making the identification of the best research material easier than it could have been if the publications were in the Arabic language. The search terms used were cardiovascular disease and the United Arab Emirates.
At the end of the search, at least 500 articles were found to have some information on cardiovascular diseases. All the articles were skimmed to identify whether they had the necessary information concerning the research question. After browsing the articles using the title only, the number of studies dropped down to 250. The abstracts of the 250 articles were read which then narrowed the number articles to 200. Finally, only 20 articles were found to have direct information on cardiovascular diseases in United Arab Emirates. However, it is essential to ensure that some of the most usual resources are not excluded without evaluating them.
After carrying out research interviews and observations, it is vital to assess the quality of information through sampling. This helps in avoiding bias that could arise due to mistakes in the application methods, the studies’ design and the report. Carrying out a case research will ensure that all the critical steps are followed. It is evident that biased results in a systematic lead to poor or low-quality results. One can determine whether the retrieved and reviewed studies are of the best quality by applying one of the methods. The first method involves recording each and every question of the instruments applied. The recording is done by indicating either yes, no or unclear. In the course of the study, quality is determined by presenting the score percentages of the studies according to the marks given.
The second method will involve numerical measures of each item of quality. Through this method, it is possible to determine the quality of one interview by adding up all the end results of each quality item for that study. The last adopted method involves analyzing the interviews and giving them a level depending on the outcome of each study. The case studies that many achievements become number one.
Aims and Objects of this of this paper
(a) To discuss the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in the United Arab
Emirates.
(b) To analyze some of the common risk factors associated with CVD
(c) To give solutions to this problem
FINDINGS
According to Soofi, & Youssef (2015), CVD is rapidly becoming one of the leading cause of deaths across the world. Developing countries are most affected by this disease. Due to progressive urbanization in Saudi Arabia, it faces a high risk of CVD. According to Global Facts (2016), 15 million individuals overall endure a stroke. Of these almost six million die and another five million are left for all time impaired. Stroke is the second driving cause for handicap, after dementia. Comprehensively, stroke is the second driving reason for death over the age of 60 years. Stroke is less regular in individuals under 40 years, despite the fact that it does happen.
CVDs are the leading reason for death around the world, a greater number of individuals die yearly from CVDs than from whatever other reason (Soofi, & Youssef, 2015). According to Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) (2016), an expected 17.5 million individuals passed on from CVDs in 2012, speaking to 31% of every single worldwide demise. Of these deaths, an expected 7.4 million were because of coronary illness and 6.7 million were because of stroke.
After carrying out thorough research, it was noted that some of the risk factors that have led to this CVD are adjustable. The healthcare workers who were interviewed revealed that these risk factors can be avoided or managed through behavior change mainly due to the fact that they are associated with life style.
Risk factors associated with CVD
Tobacco use
According to Hajat, Harrison & Shather (2012), smoking, being one of the risk factors that is associated with CVD, is very high in young males in the United Arab Emirates. It is reported that the prevalence of smoking in the males has been classified according to age. 16% of the males who smoke in the UAE are aged between 18 – 20 years, while 27% are aged between 20 – 29 and 28% for those between 30 – 39. This therefore shows that smoking, which can be avoided with behavior change therapies, is a noteworthy reason cause of CVD (Rahim et all., 2014). From the study that was done by Hajat, Harrison & Shather (2012), it is evident that several campaigns to prevent this cause have been done but Shisha, which is a new form of smoking, continues to be a cause of concern because it leads to respiratory illness. Lung cancer, and other related medical conditions. It is however difficult to determine the level of risk associated with shisha smoking because there is inadequate body of evidence.
Hypertension/ high blood pressure
High Blood pressure was identified as the second risk factor that is associated with CVD. The normal blood pressure measurement is 120mmHg systolic pressure that is the cardiac muscle contraction phase, over a diastolic pressure of 80 mmHg when the heart relaxes. 140 over 90 mmHg and above are considered to be hypertension. Causes around 50% of ischemic strokes and expands the danger of hemorrhagic stroke. Most of the CVD patient was found to have blood pressure above the normal value (Loney et al, (2013).
In the higher wage nations, around 330 million individuals have hypertension, as do around 640 million in the creating scene. The World Health Organization rates hypertension as a standout amongst the most essential reasons for sudden passing overall and the issue is developing. In 2025 it is assessed there will be 1.56 billion grown-ups living with hypertension (Hypertension, 2015).
Obesity.
Weight is one of the numerous significant danger elements for CVD and different NCDs like diabetes (Ng et al., 2011). The general human populace is getting heavier as demonstrated by the expanding rates of stoutness. As of now, there are 400 million grown-ups overall who are hefty and one billion who are overweight. There are likewise expanding rates of corpulence in youngsters. Around the world, 17.6 million youngsters under five are evaluated to be overweight (Obesity, 2016).
According to Soofi & Youssef (2015), there is a need to educate people on the various risks that have been associated with CVD and other diseases includi...
