Classification and clustering are processes used in the retrieving of information, investigation of the image and other closely related tasks. These two techniques divide data relating to the patients of a healthcare center into sets (Paykel, 2011). The act of diving the data into sets that are very crucial in healthcare organization since it enables them to be in a position to predict when an individual patient is likely to pay that is on time, late and when he or she is not in a place to settle.
Clustering is concerned with a grouping of similar data together while classification is concerned with giving labels the grouped data in the existing situations of the patients in the healthcare organization. By obtaining different information relating to the patients can use to determine various factors affecting the patients (Albright et al.,2014). For example, getting data relating to the places of residence of the patients determines the ability of the patients to pay the healthcare organization for services received on time or late or even unable to pay. The probability of those people living estates is paying on time unlike those living in rural areas.
Data mining is one of the techniques that is used in classification and clustering. The term data mining in the context of healthcare is the process of extracting relevant or useful information and patterns from huge or enormous data. It entails obtaining, collecting, analyzing statistical data relating to the patients in a healthcare organization (Paykel, 2011). This process finds out useful data from grouped data. After the information and patterns are determined, they can be employed by the organization offering health services to decisions relating to the patients of the organization.
Data mining technique have tools which are used to make forecast or predictions on patient’s abilities and future trends hence helps the health organization to make decisions that will benefit the organization in a significant way. This technique improves accuracy and cost-effectiveness of the health organization (Albright et al.,2014). The method consists of different concepts so that it can apply to the health services organization. The concepts are statistic and association rule.
The statistical concept relates to the collection and description of the data. The concept assists in discovering patterns and construction of models used to predict the patient’s behaviors. The concept also is going to handle the massive amount of data since the health organization is receiving from a lot of many patients (Paykel, 2011). By the fact that the organization is getting a lot of patients it has to analyze the information relating to them appropriately. For example, the patient’s economic status and whether it he or she has insurance cover information determines the ability of the patient to pay for the services received at the health organization.
