The assignment is about Clinical Experience with Nursing Director of health care. Clinical experience with a nursing leader prepares students in this field to understand more about leadership and be able to differentiate from management role. Nursing Director performs supervisory services to the junior nurses. This role is done through interactions with nurses and patients to find out the necessary information. The Nursing Director is required to maintain high-quality care for the patients through doctors and patient’s family members. A student should be able to learn four important Clinical concepts during the experience with the Nursing Director (Swansburg, 2006). The learning experience will assist in the development of a career in future and understanding nursing leadership in health care sector. This process will open up minds of the young individual to be leaders of tomorrow.
The student is required to observe the leadership skills that the nursing director possesses. The director should be in a position to lead the juniors in a democratic manner. The student should observe how the health care service provision operates, and if it meets the standard services of other health care. The students are required to find out any connection linking healthcare system and external environment such as politics. The students should observe the effects of politics to the Nursing leaders and how it affects their role in running the organization (Swansburg, 2006). The nursing leaders are required to understand their organization and effects of politics on the on organization to avoid negative consequences.
Basic principles and practices
The experience involved an interview and observation between the student and nursing director. The leader enjoys her job, and she is ready to work for the organization till retirement period. The Nursing Leadership is a new role that involves a lot of activities and requires both technical and interpersonal skills. The nursing director plays a wide role that cut across the health care system. The director explains in detail the role of every registered nurse. Registered Nurses had various roles that aimed at providing quality services to the clients. The director is also responsible for punishing of incompetent nurses. She does this by maintaining a file with all the records of nurses. The director had suspected a nurse who breaches the duty of care as by the file. The director handled any misconduct by the junior nurses and issued in the court of law hence must be so strict on any misconduct to avoid civil proceedings (Huber, 2013).
The Nursing Director had good interpersonal and technical skills. The leader has been a nurse for over 20 years and has served different position. The entire health care junior and senior employees praise the leader for exemplary work. The director relates with people in a positively and has formed a strong social bond with entire employees. The leader had passionate in her work and spent all her time on issues that surround health care. The director applies all the modern software to ensure that patients get proper care. The director is accountable to all her service to the health care and is evident in different files found in the office. There is a clear distinction of duties to make work easier. Responsibilities are divided as by competence and skills.
Organizational Communication, Conflict Resolution, and Collaboration
The Nursing Director has achieved effective communication between employees and other leaders. The Organizational Communication is a two-way communication that involves all the stakeholders. The ideas of both the junior and senior have an equal chance of implementation. The director allows the junior to free participate in a democratic manner with the senior members. The health care has an effective collaboration and is evident by the manner in which the senior speak to junior employees. Collaboration allows for effective delivery of a service as a team. Nursing Director was awarded the best team player of the year because of her active involvement in the management of the health care (Mackoff, 2011). As a team player, the director actively resolves conflict amongst the employees to the organization using negotiation.
The experience with the Nursing Director is an awesome experience that assist in building a whole round student in a corporate world. As a student, the experience gives a person energy to work hard in school to be the future director of a big organization. The experience is worth praise by how the director conducts her work. The director is a servant leader and ready to work for the welfare of the entire organization. The nursing director did not delegate much of the job to the juniors but does most. This is a sign of servant leadership that every organization is looking for in their leadership. During the experience the director explains every aspect in details; thus the leader is well informed of the entire organization operations.
