I‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍ attached the article that should be used/critiqued. Prompt: Choose one of the two provided articles located in the module Reading and Resources folder. Start by filling out the provided worksheet. Then, using the worksheet as your guide, write a critique to dig deeper into each section and identify the specific examples of each element (e.g., what is the research question? Does the author justify the importance of the research? In the case of a literature review, has the author examined the relevant literature?). Elaborate on each section and evaluate it for its strengths and limitations. Be sure to identify your chosen article and address the following critical elements: ? Critique o Purpose and Research Question: What is the research question? Does the author justify the importance of the research? o Design and Methods: What ‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍design and methods were used? Are they rigorous and systematic? o Validity and Reliability: Is the study valid and reliable? (For qualitative research, this section of your critique should consider the study’s trustworthiness and rigor.) o Findings and Conclusions: Are the conclusions reasonable given the findings? ? Evaluation: What are the strengths and weaknesses of the research article? Do you agree with the author’s conclusions? Why or why not? Did the author succeed or fail in the purpose of the study? Recommend areas for improvement or suggest direction for future research. Guidelines for Submission: submitted in Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, in APA format. Cold Therapy in Perioperative Spinal Surgeries
The Effects of Localized Cold Therapy on Pain in Postoperative Spinal Fusion Patients by Quinlan et al. is an article employing randomized control trial approach. The research question was the effect of postoperative use of cold therapy and its connection to the level of analgesia use after surgery (Quinlan, Davis, Fields, Madamba, Colman, Tinca & Drake, 2017). The paper purposed to determine the impact of cold on postoperative backbone pains. The authors justify the importance of their research in that more body of knowledge is required in establishing the application of cold therapy for patients with spinal pain. Considerably, their narrow use of sources with significantly dated studies assert more studies are needed in cold therapy use for more accurate, up-to-date, and decisive results.
The experiment used a two-group randomized control design on lumbar spinal fusion surgery. The methods were systematic through randomization lists and random generators to assign the available subjects to either group. They were also rigorous, especially in their inclusion and exclusion techniques. However, the inclusion of English-speaking as part of the inclusion criteria might not have been necessary for the given circumstances (Quinlan et al., 2017). The study uses many references in its literature review to show the past experiments' results on the analgesic effects of cold therapy perioperative. The study’s results also coincided with the results of the previous experiments, which increases its validity. However, considering the article was published in 2017, the use of sources compiled over twenty years before is considerably unadvisable, especially in an age when medicine is changing overnight. Therefore, the use of old sources makes the material’s reliability questionable. Nevertheless, the authors have used various sources from different but interconnected fields affirming their work. The use of the best applications for studying the results and generating the results increases the validity of the findings, such as using the Numerical Rating Scale for complimenting other pain-measuring techniques.
The findings are dependable, given the measures taken to promote the validity of the study. For instance, ninety-three volunteers for the study were excluded from the intervention groups for failing to meet the pre-set criteria (Quinlan et al., 2017). The researchers used SAS version 9.3, which was a good choice, ha
