Simon’s symptoms
Simon has had Schizophrenia since 1981 when he was 17 years. He has been sick for the last one month and had his first psychotic scene at seventeen. His symptoms include paranoia, supposed imagination and stiffness. He experiences difficulty taking his medicines and is at present overseen by a private therapist and credentialed emotional health nurse. It is also hard for Simon to accept the illness and the need for medication (Mason, 2002).
Simon diagnosis
The fact that Simon has accepted his illness regardless of the denial as well as anger and is now staying on medication is a good thing since it has helped him maintain good health. The advice he gets from the psychologists and counselors has helped him to work with his emotions thus perceiving life in a positive dimension. Psychiatric treatment could productively target Simon‟s trouble overseeing stress particularly his decision of adapting abilities, physiological excitement, and mental progression. It is thus imperative that the clinician has some knowledge about the cultural identity of the patient in addition to developing culturally competent skills, knowledge, and attitude. Encouraging use of an educational, cultural consultant is appropriate in this case to deter biases and misdiagnosis.
Disorders to Rule out
It is often believed people with schizophrenia feel shame, rejection, and self- blame. Other may develop posttraumatic stress disorder; which is a psychological wounding that often is taken the wrong way and unrecognized.
Treatment Recommendations for Simon
The fact that Schizophrenia is a chronic disease that affects most parts of life implies that the treatment plan should focus on certain goals including the elimination of symptoms, maximizing quality of life and promoting and maintaining recovery to the most possible extent. Treatment should thus aim at helping both the patient and the clinic...
