Data analysis and interpretation is the most critical stage in any research. At this point in a study, the researcher is able to find out if the research question has been answered and what useful information can be extracted from the collected data. The previous assignments on the scholar-practitioner project have helped build upon the process of finding answers on the research question. After learning several skills vital in manipulation and analysis of data, one is now able to work around any dataset that is critical to a research question. As stated in the previous assignment, my research consists of four variables, which are all categorical. My research is trying to find out if one’s ability to speak English has an influence on his or her social economic status. In the quest to answer this research question, both descriptive and inferential statistics will be used.
Bearing in mind that all variables are categorical in nature, frequencies and proportions will assist in providing information about our variables. Frequency tables and pie charts are used in this section. The analysis commences with the dependent variable, which is the social economic status. This variable was derived from the household income variable, which has not been categorized into three categories namely low, middle and high-income household. According to Kimberly (2018), the low-income class households are those households that earn less than $ 25,000 a year, middle-income earn between $35,000 and $100,000 a year and high-income households earn more than $100,000. Using this monetary definition of the various social economic classes in the society, the household income variable was recorded into a categorical variable knows as the social economic status. Below is a frequency table that shows the distribution of the variable.
