Question 1
Diabetes affects persons of all ages and races. The disease reduces an individual's life expectancy and quality of life. Also the condition imposes a tremendous economic burden on the health care system and families. The worldwide prevalence of diabetes in 2003 was estimated at 5.1 percent. The statistics included people aged between 20 to 79 years. According to the statistics, the diabetes prevalence was found to be higher in the developed countries as compared to the developing countries. In the developed countries, Europe and Central Asia registered the highest while in the developing countries Sub-Saharan Africa had the lowest (Cole, 2011, p. 13).
Unlike other countries in the U.S, there exists The Affordable Care Act. The primary reason for having the act enacted was to ensure that the establishment of the prevention and public health fund to offer extended and continued national investments in the prevention and public health fund CITATION Nil14 \l 2057 (Niles, 2014).
Question 2
Public health surveillance is the continuous systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of dataCITATION Tha12 \p 3-5 \l 2057 (Thacker, Qualters, & Lee, 2012, pp. 3-5). The data is closely integrated with the timely dissemination to those responsible for either controlling or preventing disease injury. The principal purpose of conducting public health surveillance is to aid in the estimation of the health status and the behavior of the population that are served by the ministries of finance, health and donors. The information or data that the investigators acquired from the surveillance would help them to directly measure what is going on with the population and also determine the most appropriate intervention measures to take. The surveillance would also empower the investigators’ decision makers to lead and manage more efficiently the situation by being in a position of getting timely and useful evidence (Smith, 2014).
