The Ethical Issues of Women’s Reproductive Rights and Healthcare
Women’s reproductive rights and access to affordable healthcare should be fundamental aspects of a nation. However, Belluz (2018) reveals that the United States America (USA) is one of the few developed countries which do not have paid maternal leave. Equally, President Donald Trump’s administration does not give women time off to see a physician or obtain affordable child care (Belluz, 2018). Moreover, the high cost of health services, restriction to abortion, and partial availability of modern contraceptives are some of the ethical issues of women’s reproductive rights and healthcare.

Weiss-Wolf (2018) elucidates that the pink tax, by USA, discriminates women against obtaining healthcare products, such as sanitary towels, at affordable costs. Precisely, the government’s surcharge, existing in 36 states, does not classify menstrual products as a necessity, thus including them in sales tax (Weiss-Wolf, 2018). Nevertheless, some countries, like Malaysia, India, Canada, and Kenya, do not tax menstrual products, a move that USA should adopt to eliminate needless discrimination of women. Therefore, one of the ways governments should guarantee feminine health is by removing taxes from menstrual products, thus making women’s healthcare affordable.
