Why choose to Promote Decreasing Smoking Cigarette
As the director of patient services for a federally qualified health center, I would choose a decreased cigarette smoking health promotion program to run. In Savannah town, Georgia, Chatham County, there have been major negative effects of cigarette smoking for both active and passive smokers. These effects include addiction from nicotine in the cigarette. Cigarette smoking is the primary cause of lung cancer among other lung diseases. In the world, cigarettes are estimated to kill approximately six million people per year as a result of lung cancer or other respiratory diseases caused by cigarette smoking. By fighting for the reduction of cigarette smoking, it will decrease deaths hence reducing the mortality rate (Carter & Jacobs et al. 2015). Another effect is reduced labor productivity as individuals take more time smoking cigarettes or on leave due to sickness. Cigarette smoking also makes the person involved to have a financial burden whereby the cost of buying cigarettes may be higher than their income level and their health is at risk.
Cigarette manufacturers have been highly corrupted and do not communicate to their consumers on the effects of smoking nor are they responsible for their poor health. Many health centers do not advocate for people affected to seek the help required and seemingly they do not care about the effects smoking cigarettes could cause. Cigarette manufacturing and smoking causes adverse effects to the environment by the emission of smoke that contain green-house gas which affects the ozone layer causing global warming. The people who smoke cigarettes do not like the fact that they do and most of them wonder how they can stop and live normally without the temptations. The shopkeepers and storekeepers are afraid of losing customers if they do not sell cigarettes. The fact the business makes profit from the sale of cigarettes among other commodities. For instance, a customer may come to the store to buy cigarettes and some chocolate. If the store does not sell cigarettes, the customer would opt to buy in another place where there are both of the products he/she need.
Research Questions
Many questions to be answered during the promotions are as follows. Do the people know the effects of smoking cigarettes? This is a question that each and every individual in Savannah should answer to make them realise how smoking can affect their lives day in day out. The kind of research for this question would be to interview a certain percentage of the population in Savannah. Another question would be: Why do you smoke cigarettes? This would be a mind boggling question which each individual should be faced with. It would help them search and understand their inner desire and the reason for their actions. Research would involve interaction with those individuals who smoke cigarettes. How many patients have lung cancer in Savannah? This is a question that would be directed to health specialists in Savannah to determine the statistics and also evaluate among those with lung cancer, how many smoke cigarettes (De Vaus, 2013). 
Should cigarette smoking be banned? It is a question to review everyone’s opinions and know how they feel about cigarette smoking. It should be directed to all people of Savannah town and its outskirts. It would provide statistical evaluation and understanding of the situation. How can those addicted to smoking cigarettes be helped? There are many answers to this question. Some of which those addicted would prefer and others would not. Not all those who are addicted have the desire to stop and therefore this would depend with individuals. Rehabilitation, group meetings, confinement are just but a few ways in which affected individuals would go with.

The sources to acquire the information needed would include the people who reside in Savannah. They can be the source by being involved in interviews either face-to-face or over the phone. This would include people who smoke cigarettes, those who do not, families of those who smoke cigarettes, the people in authority among other selected groups. The reason for using interviews is to gain insight into the feelings and reactions of the people towards the subject.
The information could also be acquired from the people through questionnaires. This helps the persons involved to give their answers freely and anonymously as the person does not have to indicate their names. These questionnaires can be given to certain students in various institutions. Health centers are another major source of accurate and significant information. Visiting the health centers in town to tally the number of patients who have been diagnosed with lung cancer from the doctor’s documents is also another way to collect data.
