The health sector reforms in the United States were according to many a new beginning in a sector dominated by discrimination and fraud for years. According to Whelan and Russell (2010), healthcare reforms would make health care accessible to the economically stable and the poor. Nevertheless, the reforms would end discrimination common with insurance companies when covering specific condition, in which case they charge extra fee. The formulation of a federal oversight to oversee increment of premiums by insurance companies will help foster transparent and accountable health sector stakeholders. In addition, reforms in the Medicare and Medicaid services would make of insurance cover accessible to many citizens and thus health care (Whelan & Russell, 2010).However, the critics of these reforms argue that social welfare by the government in supporting the poor through Medicaid would add an extra burden on citizens through taxation. Nevertheless, it would promote a lazy generation that will be lazy to work to raise money for their bills (Whelan & Russell, 2010).
Nurse practitioners are from time in antiquity the principal personnel in the America health sector. From small hospitals, private clinics, school and hospitals nurses are continually delivering primary health care services (Naylor & Kurtzman, 2010). However, the increasing number people with chronic condition, the rising number of the elderly coupled by inadequate resources has made work of nurse practitioners difficult. The health care reforms of 2010 opened doors to financial resources into the sector through Medicare and Medicaid services. The number of customers for health services increased markedly thus requiring the vigilance of nurse practitioners. Nevertheless, availability of financial resource increased the capacity of nurse practitioners to provide primary health care services to patients (Gruber & Newquist, 2011).
Nevertheless, the health care reforms acknowledged the importance of advanced practice nurses in health care delivery. The reforms legally recognize them as part of the healthcare organization professionals that were accountable for care delivery at the federal level (Gruber & Newquist, 2011).
