Problem statement
The main clinical problem identified in the research, as per the article, is the reduced ER to cauterization lab time and door to PCI time, which consequently resulted to ineffective treatment particularly in heart related disorders (Ahmar et al. 2008). The article revealed that in spite of a number of researchers that, which had been previously conducted in the same problem area, a significant component of the similar clinical problem still remains an issue.
The author has precisely demonstrated the rationale and significance of the present study. Despite that a number of studies have been conducted on the same field, not much have focused on the use of ‘Code AMI’. This makes this study to be arguably unique and crucial. Besides, this study has been given a lot of attention owing to its potential contribution in solving clinical health problems. For instance, it is argued that the application of the study results can improve efficiency in treatment by trimming down the time taken in treatment by about 90 minutes (Ahmar et al. 2008).
Purpose and Research Questions
The purpose of the study is clearly outlined in the article, which was to evaluate the existing hospital practices used in the management and treatment of acute STEMI. The study’s objective, thus, entails identifying the type of practices that results to time delay in treatment. The achievement of the study objective was done by analyzing the STEMI management protocols, especially on their effectiveness in elevating the state of door-to-balloon time (Ahmar et al. 2008).
In an attempt to accomplish the research purpose, the research had to find answers to three study questions. These include: [1] was the STEMI management plan effected by the hour of the day?, [2] was there a delay in the treatment of patients who were admitted with STEMI ‘off hours’?, and [ 3] was there a different in the nature of treatment given those admitted in STEMI ‘off hours’?
A critical analysis of the article clearly reveals a substantial level of relationship between both the research questions and the study purpose, and the research problem. This is primarily because; the research purpose and questions are geared towards elevating the state of STEMI patients. The study applied qualitative methods-cardiology and emergency room departments- that were appropriate in providing answers to the research questions.
Literature Review
The literature reviewed in this study entails a combination of qualitative and quantitative studies, which have been considered to be highly relevant to the current study. For instance, the researcher has used a wide range of the existing theories that revolved around the management of STEMI protocols. This has formed a significant basis for the current study.
Besides, the researcher has utilized credit sources such as the National Registry of Myocardial Infarction and National Heart Foundation of Australia, which can easily be located. This has helped to improve the level of research validity. However, not all the adopted references are current; some does not fall within the 5-year limit. For instance, some references used dates back to 2000. This implies that some information provided in the literature maybe outdated or less relevant to the current study.
From the analysis of the literature, not evidence is available about the author’s evaluation or indication of the weaknesses of the adopted studies. However, since the literature review has utilized a wide range of sources that are relevant to the present study, it can be argued that the information provided is sufficient in building a logical study argument.
Conceptual/Theoretical Framework
A critical analysis of the article indicates that the present study was based on the perspective of reducing the degree of time frame in treatment. Here, the study theme...
