Introduction
Testosterone enanthate is a testosterone variant that occurs as an injectable compound with a slow-release rate. The biochemistry of testosterone enanthate is based on the enanthate ester attached to the testosterone molecule. It is used in males to treat conditions from the lack of the hormone, such as hormonal imbalances, impotence, and delayed puberty (Carmichael et al., 2021). The introduction of testosterone enanthate in sports has enhanced the performance of most athletes but led to negative implications in both their structural and psychosocial lives. Some high-level athletes consider the need for performance enhancement through testosterone enanthate to facilitate changes in their body muscles and increase physical ability during sports (Bhattacharya et al., 2020). The testosterone enanthate is used by athletes in cycles of between 8 to 20 weeks to enhance positive outcomes during sports activities (Pasiakos et al., 2019). However, the use of testosterone leads to negative effects on athletes. Using testosterone enanthate in the body negatively affects athletic performance while considering the psychosocial and body effects.
Biochemistry of Testosterone Enanthate
In the body tissues, testosterone enanthate is transported to the cytoplasm of tissue cells. It is then broken down into dihydrotestosterone and later combines with androgen receptors. The bonded receptor moves to the cell nucleus and merges with the chromosomal DNA nucleotide. In turn, the bonding features enhance the motion of athletes since they are made active by the androgen effects found (Bhattacharya et al., 2020). The androgen receptor signals the muscle cells to create pathways that increase muscle mass through muscle hypertrophy.
When the testosterone enanthate is given to athletes in various quantities every week for ten weeks, it indicates that the muscular size, fat free-mass, and strength improve even as they incorporate active training through exercises (Lecture notes). In this case, the converted estradiol promotes performance by ossifying the cartilage into bones (Bhattacharya et al., 2020). Therefore, the hypothalamus offers signal in the body which enhances secretion and regulation of hormones which enhance performance.
Effects of Testosterone Enanthate on Athletic Performance
The structural constraints in the body through the use of testosterone enanthate are affected by the direct activation of androgen receptors. Through the testosterone enanthate, the activated androgen receptors improve performance in athletes. According to Traish and Morgentaler (2019), it affects athletes by giving them liver and kidney abnormalities since the use of boosters introduces chemicals in the body which affect the functionality of those organs.
Also, testosterone leads to increased blood pressure among athletes since it is used to enhance performance. Therefore, high levels of testosterone result in the retention of sodium and water in athletes’ bodies hence making it difficult for the heart to pump blood. Traish and Morgentaler (2019), indicate that a lot of strain is exerted on the blood vessels and veins which creates difficulties.
The use of testosterone enanthate also leads to elevated cholesterol levels when used in larger quantities. According to Traish and Morgentaler (2019), athletes may therefore suffer from stroke and heart attack when engaging in sports activities.
Testosterone enanthate attributes to infertility among athletes. As stated by Traish and Morgentaler (2019), most treatment practices may decrease sperm production levels by reducing the production of other hormones such as the Follicle Stimulating Hormone which stimulates sperm production. The effect imposed by testosterone treatment is irreversible among athletes.
Testosterone enanthate results in atherosclerosis which is the building up of fats in the arterial walls. Testosterone supplements prevent the high-density lipoprotein from removing cholesterol from the macrophage linings (Traish and Morgentaler, 2019). Therefore, athletes find difficulty participating in sports for longer durations since the increased fat levels hinder their functioning capacity.
In line with the psychosocial effects, testosterone enanthate lowers the motivation levels of athletes. In most cases, their ability to concentrate on sports activities is reduced since they are affected by feelings of sadness (Lecture notes). Also, it results in a lack of energy and low self-esteem among athletes when a lot of fat builds up in the heart area (Lecture notes). Thus, athletes cannot finish certain sports activities because they feel they may fail or even complete the last.
Conclusion
Testosterone enanthate is an essential treatment in some high-level athletes but the progres...
