My philosophy as a Registered Nurse (RN) currently working in the establishment of a new Research Medical Center is based on competency, compassion and optimal holistic care. My philosophy originates from the values and beliefs developed in me during my childhood. Nursing is an honorable profession focused on providing quality care to individuals, families, and communities. It is about the compassion to understand the emotions of human beings (Marchuk, 2014).
My assumptions about nursing are the provision of attention to maintain the physical and mental well-being of patients. I believe a nurse should be kind, honest, caring and provide security to patients for a successful quality care. Nurses should focus on patient needs, safety, healing, and empowerment. I believe nurses should assess, understand, educate, advise, plan and administer care to patients.
My nursing philosophy provides competency and compassion as the framework standards for care. My nursing philosophy domains involve a person, health, environment and nursing. A person is an individual who receives care. Nurses view health as a unique self-perceived and personal experience that is continuously changing (St, 2007). The environment involves all the things affecting the patient. Nursing is the treatment offered to patients according to their health problem.
The nursing domains are connected by nurses being responsible when providing care to patients and community on public health. I aim at establishing a research center that meets the needs of the patient (Roche et al., 2013). My mission is to provide care to patients regardless of race, culture, disability and religion. My vision as a nurse is to keep on updating my nursing knowledge through interactions and
