Nursing Situation Assignment
Hypertension is a condition that is characterized by patients having elevated blood pressure levels. It is a fairly common condition in the U. S, with empirical evidence indicating that over 80 million individuals have been diagnosed with the disease (Mills et al., 2020). When the blood pressure rises to extremely high levels, it may cause medical emergencies such as heart attacks or stroke. The common risk factors that precipitate the condition are related to human activities such as being overweight, lack of exercise, using harmful products such as tobacco and alcoholic drinks, and consuming excessive salt (Ostchega et al., 2020). Therefore, engaging in health-promoting activities reduces susceptibility to the condition (Crittenden et al., 2017). This essay explores a nursing situation that addresses the need to encapsulate lifestyle changes in the treatment of hypertension as an evidence-based solution that aims to promote health and wellness.
Nursing Situation of Incorporation of Lifestyle Change in Promoting Wellness in Hypertensive Patients
James, a fifty-year-old man, was admitted to a medical facility with high blood pressure. He is an overweight man who admitted to consuming alcohol and smoking at least three cigarettes every day. He worked as a banker, so he spent most of his days seated. During discharge, the patient was given antihypertensive medication to take at home. Additionally, he was advised to make lifestyle changes to reduce his susceptibility to the condition (Yang et al., 2017). His immediate worry was how he will effectively control some of his destructive habits, such as smoking and alcoholism.
Conclusion and Recommendations
Lifestyle change is a significant step, especially in hypertensive patients. Several interventions can be used to promote health and wellness in the patient. Firstly, dietary management is an important step that will help in controlling his weight. Subsequently, he also needs an exercising schedule to lose weight and a rehabilitative program to eliminate his destructive habits.

PICOT Question Relevant to the Nursing Call
The treatment process of hypertensive patients should incorporate care plans that can reduce their blood pressure adequately. Subsequently, it should also eliminate the triggers that cause it to rise, such as excessive weight (Yang et al., 2017). Lifestyle change is an evidence-based nursing intervention that promotes health and wellness in hypertensive patients by decreasing the factors that precipitate escalation of blood pressure and promote health and wellness.
PICOT Question
“In hypertensive patients, is treatment using medication in combination with lifestyle changes more effective compared with using medications alone in lowering the pressure effectively over a period of one year?”
Identification of Components
In the PICOT question, the population (P) being investigated is hypertensive patients such as James, the patient in the case study. On the other hand, the intervention (I) whose effects are being analyzed is using medications in combination with life
