Decision-making forms an integral part of daily management roles by people tasked with management responsibilities. Such decisions, as critical as they may prove, at times require immediate feedback (Forman and Selly, 2000). Such cases leave the managers to think on their own, think fast and make that choice on behalf of everyone. This paper elaborates on a decision analysis of a consultant tasked with analysing a problem and recommending possibilities to help improve the situation at a hospital.
Having considered all possible potential sources of the problem, it is noticeable that the cause of the issue is a lack of adequate information. Data collection exercise, as conducted by the hospital staff harbors’ the chronicles of the challenges highlighted by the hospital's CFO, Mr. Signh. Information insufficiency according to the findings resulted from errors in collection methods, entry methods, interpretation and technology employed in obtaining this data.
With regards to consultative task aiming at analyzing the problem, it is imperative to look into various aspects of gathering information (Arsham, 2004). In considering the staff involved in data entry, methods of bookkeeping, the technology employed and the alternatives offered when inaccurate information is presented to authorities; it is then possible to develop a theory that can help identify the problem and provide a viable recommendation to finding solutions.
The staff investigations into their welfare should be carried out to gauge their commitment and will in performing their duties. Such assessments also help in shedding light into the level of investment required in ensuring effective and reliable mode of obtaining patient’s information. In this scenario, when staff members accuse Mr. Signh of being a bureaucrat and insensitive to patients welfare, the issue was overlooked. However, it is important to realize that working relationships form an integral part of any business success and as such are crucial.
Having identified the possible sources of the problem, it is advisable to ensure proper training of staff before they set out to collect data, recruitment, retention and remuneration of are geared towards boosting their self-esteem and moral for the job. Technology should be employed to help with handling high volumes of data and labor specialization where applicable should be exercised wherever necessary. While focusing on improving staff relations, the management should try and have more engaging and interactive forums apart from meetings to bring both management and employees closer. Close work relationships ensure effective and efficient productivity.
