Psychodynamic Perspective
Name:
Institution:
Psychodynamics perspective is an approach in world of psychology that mainly deals with the systematic study forces of psychology, which focuses on feelings emotions and human behavior of a person (Kempke, et al., 2007). It mainly focuses on the conscious and unconscious motivation that directly related to how a person is brought up from childhood (Meissner, 2006). Thus, this perspective can be broken down into three personality components namely the id, superego and ego (Trimboli, 2013). Thus, this paper is aimed at, analyzing the psychodynamic perspective three key personalities components, mention above. Further, it shows how the three components work.
Id is believed to be the center of the instinctual energy; hence, all the instincts are generated at the id. It is believed by psychologists to be responsible for all biological urges in humans, some of those urges being impulses that drive sexual urge, survival as well as aggression (Meissner, 2006). In its performance id is always unconscious; hence, it believed to work on the principle of pleasure, this being the urge of achieving pleasure and avoid pain at all cost (Spitzer, et al. 2007). Further, id is characterized by instant thinking pattern that works on irrational and illogical impulses that dwell on instant gratification (Turney & Danielle, 2012).
The second component is ego; its main duty is managing any conflict that may arise between restriction of life and the id. However, all part of the ego is unconscious some parts of that creates ego are conscious while the rest are precautious in nature (Trimboli, 2013). As a result, the ego works on the principle of reality. It suppresses the immediate urge of the id and creates a room of reality. Ego is both rational and logical in the in the way it works it prevents id from satisfy it urge unethically.
The last component is superego; this is the component that builds up morals in a person. It sets standards that one may have acquired from either the society of parents. Superego works in such a way that it makes the ego to not only focus on reality, but also to conform to morality (Trimboli, 2013). It is the one that moulds a person’s personality by bringing the feeling of guilt.
Inclusion, we have clearly analyzed the psychodynamic perspective as well as how it works using its three components. We have also observed that all the three work hand in hand to create the personality of an individual that is acceptable. Lastly, it comes out very clear that superego is the component that drives all the levels of awareness in life.
