Infectious diseases are caused by small organisms known as microorganisms that are transmitted from one person to another. The microorganisms include organisms such as fungi, bacteria, viruses and protozoa are known as pathogens. They are spread by direct contact from one person to another or through the air where the pathogens are inhaled and cause disease. This paper aims at identifying risk factors that may make a person susceptible to acquiring infectious diseases.
Acquisition of infectious diseases is very easy because pathogens are present in the human environment. Some can cause very catastrophic results because of their high virulence. One of the risk factors that can cause spread of infectious diseases is poor hygiene. The improvement of hygiene can contribute to the reduction of the population of microorganisms and help reduce the chances of getting an infection (Wright, 2013).
The use of steroidal drugs also makes one vulnerable to infection. The Steroidal drugs can suppress the immunity of the body which is the body’s defense system (Wright, 2013). The result is being predisposed to acquiring infectious disease with minimal exposure. There is the need to consult health professional such as pharmacist on the use of steroidal drugs.
