An example of the most preferred theory in nursing is the sensation theory that was devised by Jean Johnson. It is a theory that focuses on creating a feeling of comfort among patients despite being subjected to painful situations or harsh medical procedures. When compared with other theories of nursing, it is found that this theory ensures the experiences that a patient undergoes that result into stressful situations are controlled. This theory is also relevant because during surgical activities, patients are more likely to develop distress that can have an impact on their recovery rates (Mead, Bursell & Ketelsen, 2006).
Consequently, it will ensure psychomotor knowledge is created in the patient and the patient is enabled to sustain the pain and other impacts of illnesses they are undergoing. This is based on the fact that when a patient is supposed to undergo a medical operation or the use of a painful drug, there are cases of anxiety; hence the need for a therapy where they are encouraged to overcome these risks and fears. As a result, the patient is able to cooperate with the health care giver and comply with the requirements such as taking doses and attending appointments with the physician so that that activity aimed at overcoming the illness can be controlled.
Another way in which this theory will be applied is during the need to perform a surgical operation on a patient. By introducing the patient to the medical practice and the manner in which they can overcome the illnesses, an insight is created on the role of teaching the patients to observe data and time (Meleis, 2011).
