Introduction
Euthanasia is the humane way of killing a person to suffering due to an incurable disease or accident. It is also called mercy killing. It is administered mainly to persons suffering from terminal illness or has had a major accident. It is only offered as the last resort, when all other options are impossible. The patient must have left less than six months to live with the disease.
Euthanasia can help relieve the patient of the suffering, especially when there is a long-term illness in the picture. It is humane to aid death of the patient rather than to wait for the patient suffer and finally die. Rosenstein DL., (2011). Comments that depression advances with illness and it is better to have a short fulfilling life than to live a life of depression and pain. Euthanasia ensures a safe medical practice where the doctor ensures that the patient receives a painless death as opposed to pain.
Euthanasia should not be legalised because I believe in preserving the human life. The patients sometimes feel being forced to ingest poison. This in itself brings depression and a feeling that the family is tired of you and want to get rid of you. Euthanasia and homicide are almost the same. Both involve ending life intentionally. Legalising euthanasia is the same making homicide legal. Death is irreversible, and loosing someone you love is painful, for this reason, every minute the patient have for living should be utilized with the persons who care about the patient. In rare cases the medical examination can be defective and the patient might live longer or even heal from the disease. The doctors do not know the optimum level of pain that the patient can handle, therefore, it is better to let the decision to come from the patient and no one else.
