The Human Resource Department and Goals within the Medical Field
The medical field is unlike any other in terms of human resource management since it requires a lot of expertise in terms of choosing personnel. The main reason for the uniqueness of this field is that the clients who visit medical centers are not normal clients. They require uttermost professionalism and in some cases, the service provided may be a matter of life and death. Therefore, in the medical field, the human resource department has a harder task sourcing for the best professionals in the field to ensure that they get the best services possible for their patients. In this respect, each medical organization has its specific goals, a task that is left to the top management that includes the Human Resource Department to bring to fulfillment these goals. Therefore, this paper is going to look at the different ways through which the HRM ca ensure fulfillment of the medical organization’s goals through its functions.
According to Boella and Goss in their book, one of the major steps towards ensuring that organizational goals are met and especially with relation to the human resource department is ensuring the correct personnel within the organization. The book stipulates that a successful organization must fill its work positions with the best professionals in order to maintain and reach set goals (Boella & Turner, 2005). Various listed ways through which the human resources personnel can obtain the best personnel for their organization exist. This includes the department being well informed on the skills required for every position, which therefore calls for the HRM personnel to be well versed in medical jargon and specifications. This would allow them to define the profession description accurately, as well as have the best mechanisms of evaluation for those interested.
The human resource department not only serves the position of looking for and recruiting personnel into the organization, but also of ensuring growth of the employees and keeping them motivated. Since the medical staff is the greatest staff that the employer has in this field, ensuring they are highly trained and greatly motivated is of the uttermost importance (Cropanzano, 1992). In this respect, training should be a continuous process and not a once in their career thing for the staff. This is also because the medical field is ever evolving field that requires a well-informed staff. According to research, the medical field witnesses a new scientific development every two weeks (Fottler, Khatri & Savage, 2010). Therefore, the human resource department must keep its staff as informed as the information they are getting, thus ensuring the goals of the organization are up to date.
The medical field is rife with policies and procedures that may determine success or bring about failure. It is the task of the human resource department to keep all employees informed on the procedure and policies followed not only within the particular organization, but also in the entire medical field. This may be in reference to anything including the law, so as to ensure the patients receive the best care and treatment and find no fault in the services provided, which would be a legal loophole altogether (Niles, 2013). This information should also be in line with the company’s goals, values, mission and vision.
Finally, the human resource department has the task of ensuring they monitor their workforce. This means ensuring they have the means to measure and evaluate employee performance. Measuring employee performance boosts chances of reaching organizational goals in the medical field since it provi...
