Nursing Theories
The use of nursing theories is designed to provide an effective framework in nursing practice with the aim of advancing professional and disciplined practice in nursing. Roy´s adaptation model and Orem´s self-care deficiency nursing theory theories have a distinct approach when dealing with concepts of nursing. However, Orem’s self-care deficiency theory states that nursing is presented as a unique action system and knowledge for professional practice. This theory suggests that nursing interventions are necessary to help in medical care and self-care for patients. Additionally, this theory proposes for nursing systems and agencies (persons trained as nurses) to illustrate nursing and come up with actions that promote self-care and have the best interest of the patient (Didisen, Binay & Yardimci, 2017).
Roy´s adaptation model defines nursing practice as a concept that enables patient to develop positive outcomes as well as coping mechanisms in respond to stimuli exposure. The model views nursing as a scientific discipline. Additionally, this model view nursing as a science of promoting adaptation with the main focus of impacting health outcomes positively. The model suggests that this is achieved through nursing activities and goals that act as a framework for nursing practice (Roy, 2018).
Summarily, both Orem and Roy models focus on promoting better patient care. The models also aim at improving communication among nurses and enhancing nursing image. Orem´s self care deficiency theory view person's self-care ability should focus on preventing illness, enhance wellness and maintaining life.
