Citizen of Jamestown, VA during Bacon’s Rebellion
Citizen of Jamestown, VA during Bacon’s Rebellion
The Bacon's rebellion is associated with the series expeditions that Nathaniel Bacon carried out in attempts to defend against the Indian's attack. Bacon tended to be more aggressive, and war minded in comparison to the then governor, Sir William Berkeley. In fact, Berkeley favoured diplomatic means in dealing with Indians. Furthermore, Bacon accused Berkeley on several allegations such as raising taxes unjustly and favouring his cronies to high offices among others. Consequently, these actions culminated in a power struggle between the two leaders whose consequence after armed skirmishes was the burning of Jamestown (John, 2012). It was during the arrival of the rebels in Jamestown. Berkeley later returned him to his governor's council's seat (John, 2012). Furthermore, one of the members of the assembly requested Bacon to be given the permission to fight the Indians. The governor instead refused and claimed to have widely held consultations over the matter. Bacon was later on expelled from the council after which e fled to Jamestown. In Jamestown, he assembled an approximate of five hundred voluntary armies and returned to the capital when the assembly was about to conclude its business.
There was a scene at the Statehouse as the burgesses watched helplessly Bacon's men dra...
