Analyzing Problems in Understanding Malay Politics
Malaysia is one a country whose politics require a deeper understanding of the country in a bid to come up with a clear understanding of it. This is so because it has a unique way with which it conducts its operations. The uniqueness in nature of the Malay politics has seen the country been tabled by some people for debates. These discussions have been held to help or rather try and come up with a clear or rather precise understanding of the politics there as well as the government of that country. Ideally, the country has a form of government that is very rare in most countries in the world, and it is called the federal representative democratic constitutional monarchy. Under such form of government, the king is the head of state, and the prime minister comes in as the head of the government. Executive powers in the country are the responsibilities of the federal government and the 13 state governments (Borner, Brunetti & Weder, 2016). The judiciary is or rather operates independent of the executive and the legislature but the two are responsible for the appointment of judges into the judiciary. The country’s constitution modified in such a way that it operates on codes and these are all regulated by the Westminster system. Summarily, the Malaysian politics, as well as the government, runs under that structure. Indeed, it is a structure that has been proven to not only be unique but also complex. It is for this reason that most people find it hard to interpret and understand it. This paper seeks to have a close review of the reasons that make it difficult for people to comprehend the Malay politics.
To begin with, one reason that would leave people puzzled about the politics at Malay is the fact that the leaders or rather the politicians there operate under a system that is not unique to other countries. The type of system that they run under is quite different and therefore, they may be seen to be doing a lot of stuff that is contradicting their expectations (Borner, Brunetti & Weder, 2016). However, if their laws are to be applied then they would be on the right. Therefore, it is right to assert that one reason that is making people face some sought of difficulties or even challenges when it comes to the interpretation of the Malay politics is the fact that the form of government and the systems that are being used in governance in Malay are way different. This makes people perceive them as to be doing wrong even if they are on the right.
Notably, some of the laws that are being used in the management of the people in that country are to some extent controversial. For instance, the country has some stringent rules and regulations on censorship in the world (Pye, 2015). This makes the government have excessive control over the media thus regulating what content they show to the public. Unlike other countries where the media are allowed to air anything in the name of freedom of expression, in Malay, the government uses the docket of national security in the constitution to regulate what is broadcasted by the media. This makes the citizens to be subjected to inadequate information. Therefore, for someone not living in the country, he/she may not understand this. With such a situation, exposition of certain vices in the country becomes very hard and challenging. These are some of the questions that have been posed with regards to the politics in that country.
Also, it is important to know that the country has most of its population being Muslims and this, unlike in other countries, may also be an issue since the people there follows the Quran rules. It is much expected that being colonized by the British, the country would have Christianity as the main religion but then the case is different. Most of the people in Malaysia especially the leaders are Muslims, and therefore people may regard their ways operation as diverse from the expectation especially if they do not have a concise understanding of the Muslim laws. Therefore it is right to assert that the Malay politics is to some extent challenging to understand because the country is Muslim based, unlike its colonizers. This is way beyond people's expectation.
Summarily, Malaysia is one a country that has been in several debates and this is so because of the unique nature that it has when it comes to its methods of operation. For instance, the country operates under a complex system of government, and this has been seen to make it difficult for people to understand it. Secondly, the other factor or rather reason that has been seen to make the politics in that country difficult to comprehend is the controversial laws being used in the regulation of content to be displayed by the media. Finally, the other possible reason that could make the politics in that country tricky for some people to understand is the fact that the country is more of Muslim based. This makes it hard for the individuals subscribing to other denominations ton understand their ways of dealing. Indeed, we can assert that the reasons discu...
