China is one of the four ancient civilizations, and the written history of China dates back to the Shang dynasty, over 3000 years ago. Different cultures evolved and others changed with the different Dynasties that came to power. On this article will discuss the Chinese culture that was continuous/consistent from Shang Dynasty, Zhou, Qin, and Han Dynasty.
The oldest form of Chinese writing is found as inscriptions of divination records on the bones or shells of animals called Oracles bones by the Shang Dynasty. The writings found on the Oracle bones indicate complexity, meaning that this form of language had existed for a long time (Olson). Modern scholars can read this language because it's similar to the modern Chinese writing system. Oracle bones are turtle shells or pieces of bone that were used by the ancient Chinese in attempts to predict the future. The ancient kings would inscribe their name and the date on the bone along with a question. They would then heat the bones till they cracked and interpret the cracks, which they believed provided
