Individual liberties, rights, and responsibilities are more important to Republicans than to Democrats in their perspective. Democrats, on the other hand, place a more significant emphasis on social justice and community involvement. Even though Democrats and Republicans may have differing views on several subjects, the following discussion will summarize where both parties stand on several of these problems. The role of government lies at the heart of the Republican and Democratic parties' most fundamental conflicts (Yermakou, 2021).
As a Democrats I feel that government participation in society positively impacts the quality of people's lives and contributes to the more significant aims of opportunity and equity. Regarding government tasks and responsibilities, Republicans are more likely to advocate a smaller government, which they see as more efficient and less intrusive in society. As a result, they view "big government" as a wasteful and impediment to accomplishing their objectives. Government regulation is replaced by Darwinian capitalism, which assumes that only the most successful businesses can survive in a free market.
Environmental controls and anti-discrimination laws in the workplace are two areas that Democrats tend to support. Because most laws have unintended repercussions, Republicans tend to view restrictions like these as a drag on economic growth and creating new jobs. Despite the fact that the Environmental Protection Body (EPA) is frequently derided as an example of a government agency that should be abolished, it is true.
To further their goal of ensuring that health and social services are available to all Americans, Democrats support some degree of government-funded health care. Democrats also usually favor women's rights to unrestricted abortion and the equal treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals under the law (Piotrowski, 2019). Most of the Democratic Party opposes Republicans' efforts to relax gun laws and the right to carry concealed weapons (as opposed to open carry).
While Republicans support government regulation of religious institutions and people's free exercise of religion, Democrats support both. For the most part, the modern Democratic Party advocates for a strong federal government with regulations that regulate industry and business in the public's interest, as well as nationally financed social programs and benefits for those who are less fortunate, jobless or old. Democrats value this separation of church and state more than Republicans do.
People who lean Democratic tend to oppose government intrusion into people's non-economic lives and to support strict separation between church and state. Whenever it comes to foreign policy, Democrats embrace multilateralism and internationalism, or the execution of foreign policy via international institutions like the United Nations. The party has a wide range of views because it is so decentralized as the Republican Party.
Affirmative action and gun control measures are supported by the majority of Democrats, although there are some conservative and moderate Democrats who reject them or offer them qualified support. Conventions held every four years to nominate the party' candidates for president create the Republican and Democratic platforms (Yermakou, 2021). Every presidential election year, the governing party holds its national convention second; this is a longstanding custom.
Those who will attend the Democratic National Convention in July are chosen from a pool of delegates who were nominated during the previous winter and spring. Among the "super delegates" are members of the Democratic National Committee, the party's members of Congress, Democratic governors, and senior leadership body. The role of the super delegates was curtailed by rule amendments in 2018 in response to criticism of their involvement in the nominating process in 2016 (Granskog, 2020).
However, if a challenge is made to the party's nominee on the first ballot, super delegates are not allowed to vote till the second ballot is cast. A national committee is selected at each convention to prepare the next convention and rule until another convention is held. Conventions also confirm the party nominee and establish a platform. The Democratic National Committee consists of party leaders across all fifty states of Columbia (DNC). The party's presidential candidate usually nominates the committee's chairman, who the committee then e
