Africa-Europe Summit under the protection of OAU and EU (2000) is a document that was arrived at during heads of state summit in Cairo which is typically known as the Cairo declaration. In this meeting, the head of states made several declarations on matters pertaining Africa and Europe in terms of economic cooperation and trade, human rights and democracy, governance, cultivating peace and developmental matters between Africa and Europe. In this meeting, the heads of states agreed that there have been strong ties between the two continents in terms of culture, language, trade, socio-economic and political fields. The ties have developed as a result of shared values between the continents. So that the partnership between Africa and Europe would become of great significance for future, heads of state decided to strengthen the existing links.
External Analysis
The document dubbed “African-Europe Summit aegis of EU and OAU” was authored by a representative of the UN who was in attendance at the summit. The document was produced between 3rd and 4th April 2000 in Cairo during the Africa-Europe Summit. Furthermore, this document was meant to be public as the deliberations made on the document affects the two continents. The document can be categorized as a law document as the gist contained in the document involves rules and regulations on matters of Africa and Europe. Moreover, the document appears to be in its first language i.e. no translation has been made on the document. Internal Analysis
Heads of State stressed on the need for working together as a regional block between the African continent and Europe. In terms of trade, for instance, they agreed to remove trade barriers. They also underlined the essence of dialogue between private and public sectors as they are the backbone for economic growth. The heads of state noted that infrastructural constraints were the major problems that Africa face in initiating developments. Public debt in Africa was a matter of great concern. However, the heads of state reaffirmed their commitment to cooperative to realize developments.
