Knights of Labor was an Organization that Existed Secretly in Chicago

Among other labor organizations, Knights of labor was an organization that existed secretly in Chicago. As a result, and in the late 1800s, the knights of labor were characterized by various historical characterizations. If they were not available, there could have probably never been the first labor organizations. Consequently, there could have never been the Knights of labor in the first place. For instance, the characteristics were as shown below; the civil war and industrialization, the role of the Irish and German immigrants, the Robber Barons, the Knights of Labor, the Haymarket strike, and lastly, the May Day Holiday. Therefore, the essay speculates on the Knights of Labor as one of the first labor organizations in the history of existence, and more often than not, the indifferent features.
Firstly, there was the civil war and industrialization, which was characterized by traditional manufacturing. Traditional manufacturing is characterized by making goods and products using hands, either by an individual from the start to the end or by family members or friends. For instance, the making of the clothes at those times was entirely dependent on handmade materials from the initial stages to the final stages (Parfitt, 2017 p. 15). In all honesty, several things were needed to succeed during the civil war and industrialization. They included raw materials, energy, technology, transportation, capital, communication, laborers, education, food, and demand. The aforementioned effects resulted from the market in the first place, in which the civil war brought about the same, in most cases. Additionally, the war also stimulated industrialization in various cities like New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. Besides, Chicago grew due to the McCormick International Harvester Company, which used to farm tools and machinery during agricultural industrialization (Keohane, 2019 p. 320). Hence, the civil war and industrialization mean that there should be enough provision of food to satisfy the rising needs of the population.
Again, there were indifferent roles played by the Irish as well as the German immigrants. For one, the migration of the Irish people into the United States ensured that industrialization needed cheap labor for automation to be more vibrant. In this case, the laborers from Ireland supplemented the African-American laborers. Besides, they could speak or communicate in English, which added an advantage to them (Hild, 2019). These people only needed an adequate supply of jobs, and so they were contented with what they did in the United States. On the other hand, the individuals from Germany came into the country fearing the chaos that sprang out in Germany. The advantage of these German immigrants is that they were educated. Consequently, they would form a good combination with the Irish personnel, who were less skilled to produce goods and services of the required qualities (Cross, 2020 p. 152). As a matter of fact, they would come up with the skills needed; then the unskilled would copy from them so that everything would run on smoothly. To say nothing of that, these people were of paramount importance to the industrialization of the United States.
