Michelangelo’s Biography
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was famously known as simply Michelangelo. Michelangelo was a Florentine artist of the 16th century, who was born in 1475 in Florence and died in 1564 in Rome at the age of 88. He died just three weeks before his 89th birthday and was buried in the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence (Bambach et al., 2017). The artist did a great deal of work in transforming painting history. He was a sculptor, painter, architect, and poet. It shows that he was a great artist, using surrealism to depict messages that he sent via the pieces of art he was involved in. Hailed as one of the greatest artists of the 16th century, Michelangelo showed that versatility exists, and the unparalleled influence in renaissance can be achieved by art. Using Berger’s Ways of seeing, the following concepts can be used to show the famous work of Michelangelo.
Berger points out the differences in old masters' paintings and the current setting, something that is stated with Michelangelo's output. In his various forms of art, Michelangelo shows that art has a very powerful message that people need to hear it. The most famous works for Michelangelo include David, Pieta, and The Last Judgement (Paoletti, 2015). he is also famous for the sculptor of the Medicean tombs, the architect of cupola and the writing of sonnets (Symonds, 2018).
Documentation of the artists during his time is well documented, with many paintings that have contributed to religion and social justice or movements as depicted by Berger in Ways of Seeing. The contribution that the artist made in history is vivid on platforms such as the Holy Basilica in Rome. Despite being a common Italian painter, Michelangelo did a great work in coming up with the most influential frescoes in history at the age of thirty.
