Black Lives Vs. Blue Lives Matter Movements
Introduction
Amid the rampant protests against police brutality leading to the loss of African American lives, there are other skeptical arguments about this movement being defamation of the country's police system. The skeptics of this movement argue that the former is focusing on the police system's weakness in the country and not the whole lot of advantages that they bring. Therefore, these two groups have been at logger's heads, with each wanting to be seen as the most important and the most logical. Moreover, there have even been physical violence cases between the groups because of their contrasting opinions (Kubeer, 20). However, if both sides of the argument are considered, both groups may understand that it will promote the country's greater good.
Black Lives Matter sparked up after the murder of George Floyd, an African American, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. By white police who suspected him of forgery, His death was due to suffocation after the police continued kneeling on his neck even after George's plea of not breathing (Szetela, 1360). The occurrence sparked Blacks' anger, who decided to take their wrath to the streets to protest against the police's actions. Other skeptics then felt that these accusations against the police demeaned them and all that they do. Therefore, they formed the Blue Lives Matter Movement and came to defend the police against the counter-movements fury.
Black Lives Movement
This movement feels that even after the Emancipation Proclamation that freed Blacks from slavery in 1863, there is still a lot of racism in the country that is still denying African Americans’ the ability to be free in their own home. These are particularly systems such as the law enforcement system that kills Black people instead of protecting their lives. The movement also presents various names of other Blacks who have been killed over time with no solid crimes; Breanna Taylor, who was shot eight times by the police who were supposedly carrying out a drug search, Atatiana Jefferson who was shot in full sight of his nephew with no crime at all (Kubeer, 25). There are so many names on the list. They, therefore, question the police’s duty to oversee the safety of all Americans.
The police that murdered George Floyd, Derek Chauvin, is only fired after the charges raised against him (Buggs, 36). This has added more to the Black Lives Movement's wrath because they feel that even the judicial system is directed by racism, denying Blacks justice. To counter the claims of the Blue Lives Matter Movement, they explain that the police choose their occupation, black do not. They also continue to state that the blue uniform can be removed once the police get home, black skin cannot, and that no police officer at all have lost their lives because of the systemic racism in the country as compared to the African American Community. The protests go on and on, with most of these supporters viewing the others as the perpetrators of racism in the country.
Blue Lives Matter
This movement came as a response to the claims that they feel are tarnishing the efforts that the law enforcement system does to safeguard the country. The movement advocates the notion, "All Lives Matter" and feels that the police's work and livelihood sources should not be taken away at Black Lives' expense. Just as BLM gives actual names of people who have had their lives taken away because of the protests, the Blue Lives Movement identifies with the five police that lost their lives in Dallas while struggling to maintain peace in 2018 BLM protests (Cooper, 2). The turning of the BLM protests violent has led them to conclude that the protests come at the expense of police lives endangerment.
The movement also feels that nothing is being done to recognize the police who are still at the forefront of preventing property damage when their names are being dragged in the mud. They argue that the police could fight back against these protests that defamed and demeaned all that they do, but they chose to stick by their responsibilities (Cooper 3). The police agitators have been identified with American Flags during the protests with banners s
