Nannie Doss
Nannie Doss appeared in the village as a sweet lady. She was known for her smiles and laughter all the time. When she married and had four children, Nannie also dedicated most of her time with her grandchildren. Her seemingly “cheery” appearance had a hidden story of death and murder that happened during the 1920s through 1954. For a period of almost 30 years, the cheerful serial killer had cut a number of limbs off her own family tree, with bodies that were allegedly included her four husbands, her mother, one of her mother-in-laws, her two sisters, two of her children, a grandson, and a nephew. Doss’ weapon of choice was arsenic, which she mixed into a soup, brewed coffee, or vegetable stew.
Although the motivation of these crimes remained to be unclear, Nannie Doss’ statement always reasoned that she was only looking for the perfect husband (Jenesen, 2012). Despite this, she was not able to find the right one since the two were drunkards and physically abusive, three were adulterers, and the last was too restrictive. Nannie was also observed to have left on prolonged trips, which suggested that she had an adulterous nature. Furthermore, Nannie Doss was also seen as partially motivated by finances; however, suspected that she was apparently unable to profit or to make a living out of her crimes.
