GEORGIA UNREST IN THE 1850S
Introduction
Georgia is one of the states forming the USA and was founded in 1733. Georgia witnessed an issue of discontinuity in the period of 1850s as some historians say that there was sectional conflict during this period and that there was slavery in the region. The issues that propagated this conflict were slavery and racial discrimination. This paper looks at how these issues led to the unrest.
The 1850s unrest
The issues of slavery and westward invasion had been engineered by the series of laws and policy enactments of 1850 championed and organized by Henry Clay. The issues of the debate was the question whether or not new conquered territories should be allowed to join the union as new slave states. The southern and northern states held different views to this issue with the north preferring an expansion of these slave territories whilst the northerners were for the idea of abolishing the issue of slave trade in its whole.
