Washington’s Military strategy
A military is a special type of forces trained with knowledge and skills so as to defend a group of people or the entire nation in time of war. During training, the military member is guided by rules and regulations that are aimed to benefit the group of people that the military is purposed to protect in times of war. Military usually have a person in charge of giving orders and directions about the various activities to be carried out in the military. In this state, the person is termed as the commander of the military and he/she directs so as to ensure that the persons to be protected are safe as directed by law (Jeff, 2010).
During military training, knowledge and skills are imparted onto the military service men. These knowledge and skills involves the various activities that they are likely to encounter in their line of duty. Among these include the various ways of attacking the enemy through understanding their hiding points, camouflaging techniques and their means of attack. When this is understood, an enemy can thus be attacked and fought upon comfortably (Stepman, 2012).
Different military services offers unique training to their service men. This issue is factored by the many differences that arises due to variation in strengths, ability, and even the use of powerful weapons used by the opponents. A new strategy of attach can thus be devised so as to counter attach the enemies hence protect members.
Washington’s military was one of the successful and powerful military in the United States commanded by the first president of the United States of America. This becomes the reason as to why Washington is known as the ‘Father of America" as he led an American Revolution movement. This happened when Washington had served two terms while in office as an American president (Mart, 2011). This success is looked upon to have succeeded due to various reasons that are politically oriented, leadership among other perspectives. According to the many changes in circumstances that took place during the war, Washington is termed as a leader who knew how to strategize before his military went to fight.
Perspectives about Washington’s Military strategies
Consistency in the use of weapons, strategy and many factors like the means of approaching the enemy marks a point of observation for Washington’s military. Despite the success of this revolutionary war by the United States, both positive and negative critics have been forwarded to Washington. These critics have on one point praised the strategies he used to calm the opponents while on the other side, negatives have been said to criticize the used techniques of fighting the opponents used by the Washington’s military (Mart, 2011).
First of all, the former superintendent by the name David Palmer is convinced of the strategy used by Washington. He argues that a successful fight should use a talented military technique. He speaks this so as to dismiss the various myths and misconceptions used by people concerning the American Revolutionary War. He added that the talk about the war should be based on the battlefield experience and not mere speculations, assumptions, myths and misconceptions.
On the other hand, Washington is viewed as an individual who is incompetent during the Revolutionary war fight. In support of this statement, they claim that the winning that Washington established during the fight was simply by surviving hence marking a great point of weighing his leadership (Jeff, 2010). Instead, they relate this time with the British collaboration with Washington during the American Revolutionary war.
Nevertheless, the truth is claimed that Washington achieved great success as he has produced several generals that later achieves victory in the various places they were deported such as India, England and British.
Phases in Washington’s Strategy
As supported by General Palmer, the strategies used by Washington during the war were applied throughout during the war period. The strategies were applied in four unique phases as argued by General Palmer. To begin with, the aggressive nature Washington used his military army served a great impact towards the success of the war. He aggressively addressed the military army and directed them towards their opponents who were the British for fight since he saw no reason that will make him to be careful. The Washington’s army was able to overcome the British troop which was sparsely positioned and later taking back a city. This gave the Washington’s military a great victory at the Siege of Boston despite the small number of the Washington’s army compared to that of the British.
The second phase of fight took place when a group of mercenary Hessian and a massive British came out for a fight with the Washington’s army. Since Washington had a small number of military compare to his counterpart, he had to take caution before allowing his troop to fight. In the process, Washington took a step further and came up with a strategy of consultation. During this process, professional military men and European advisors were put in place so as to ensure that the military is kept intact despite being very small. According to Washington, this is the only way of ensuring that the revolution is kept in progress for military and citizen’s morale reasons (Mart, 2011).
In the process, Washington went back to aggression again at the time when the French reinforcements came by the North America continent. The British military were thus driven away from Southern colonies marking another fateful and successful siege of Yorktown.
Finally, bringing together the American military and people become a very important step during this fight. This came after all the British had conceded a defeat and hence a need to make his colony stronger than even before. According to him, this could be achieved through unity and working together for the interest of all Americans and ensuring that the American military gains strength through aggression that can be renewed in case of an attack by their opponents.
Ensuring that this is applied, Washington laid down means of ensuring that the military does not temper with the rights of the congress hence the civilians being controlled (Nick, 2014). General Palmer salutes Washington’s techniques he applies as he terms Washington’s successful work as masterful and foxlike.
Reasons why the Americans won the revolutionary war
Washington’s military was well organized triggered by the myths that spread in the American citizens and soldiers about the arrogant British army. The military was organized and listened to its only commander despite being small in number. During attach, the Washington militia arranged themselves and moved in a group towards their target point. They thus used the cover their opponents at the battlefields through an effective communication between the commander and the militants. During the second attack by the British upon the American, it is clear that the Washington organized himself further by employing experts that will give advice before sending his troop for a fight. At long run, it is evident that this clear organization yields fruits where the American manages to beat the British for the second time.
The support from other countries such as France helped America become more powerful and at the end defeat British. America managed to defeat British given the support from France since France had all it needed to fight. These included the fighting troops, wealth, ships, and the guns. The French had the fighting equipment and resources hence sustained the continental army. The French army had many expertise sailors and soldiers that gave Washington a chance to create a trap thus defeat British General at the Yorktown.
In addition perseverance was among the most fundamental strategies used by the American military during the revolutionary war against the British. This serves as the reason as to why Americans achieved their independence since they did not stop to fight but ensured that they fight up to the end. Despite the challenges that arises due to war, Americans continued to press on until they achieve what they really though will give their people freedom. The faith to see the Americans prosper, mutual love that build within Americans, and the determination between members that encouraged them to fight without giving up played an imperative role.
However, this was not an easy task for the youth and country men to decide for them...
