Abstract
With the increasing need for shorter turnaround time, improved creativity, lower operation costs, and utilization of international skills, virtual teams have become a solution. Digital teams are giving companies the much-desired competition in this aggressive market scenario. While several companies are embracing virtual teams, but only a handful can squeeze their juice while the remaining only experience worse outcomes due to various differentiators undermining success. RAMP model has been developed to improve the success of virtual teams. This paper will cover differentiators in virtual teams and the RAMP components to ensure the thriving of virtual teams.
Differentiators
Lack of trust is the first differentiator in virtual teams. This is because trust is a central force in determining the efficacy of a virtual team. Most consultants and analysts believe that building trust is the greatest obstacle in creating successful virtual teams and companies (Coutu, D, 1998). Inability to trust either a fellow group member or a team manager leads to low relations and engagement and a high level of conflict that leads to low productivity and success of the team.
