The article Immigration Worker Union Warns ‘Serious Threat’ of ISIS Entering US was published by HYPERLINK "/"FoxNews.com on 18th, September, 2014
The article notes that lax visa policies make it easier for Islamic State terrorists to cross the United States borders via the southern Texas border. The article notes that “visa overstays” make it easier for asylum seekers to stay longer than stated on their visas, therefore posing threat to homeland security. In the recent past, there have been claims that some legislation in dealing with foreigners that were meant to make America a preferable destination for foreigners, are now proving to make American borders less secure ( HYPERLINK "/"FoxNews.com, 2012 p2). Extremist and terror groups have been arrested in the past, with the last arrests made on 10th, September, 2014.
Urgent measures should be taken so that the Islamic State terrorists do not proliferate the United States, warns Kenneth Palinkas, head of Citizenship and Immigration Department Council. The porosity of the Southern border could provide easy entrance into the U.S. by the ISIS agents who pose a significant threat to national security. Although, the United States Counter-Terrorist Agency denies these allegations, Immigration representatives and the Congress point out that if President Obama does not act with speed to re-look at “visa overstays”, the threat of terrorists posing as people seeking asylum could be greater ( HYPERLINK "/"FoxNews.com, 2014 p1). Whereas asylum seeking is in itself not wrong, terrorist could use it as a disguise to get into the United States.
The effect of the above on the average American is that they will be more prone to terrorist attacks as the ISIS have links to terrorist and extremist groups in the Middle East. Drug cartels will take advantage of the Texas Southern border to smuggle drugs into America; therefore increasing crime, and destroying the American youths who depend on drugs. The average American is not as protected as, say, those from high class. The drug cartels have a close link to the terrorist groups as they fund them. Such instances have been reported before. Mexico, for instance, gained its notoriety due to the Southern porous border, close to Mexico. This serves to show what lax rules at the border could expose the average American to insecurity, crime, and drugs. Besides, jobless Americans could be lured into trafficking drugs by drug barons.
The political significance is that America would be at war with Syria and other Middle East countries that have been shown to back Islamic State groups. If President Obama authorizes the controversial “Visa Overstays” he would be at conflict with Congress and Civil Rights groups. In the past, the issues of porous borders and immigration laws have been discussed. If the rules remain the same, the Congress would see Mr. Obama as not doing enough to make the United States more secure ( HYPERLINK "/"FoxNews.com, 2014 p2). Moreover, America will be more vulnerable to terror attacks. Border security is more significant that...
