Due to the advancement in technology, internet usage has tremendously increased across the globe. Notably, many firms and organizations have embraced the internet as a marketing tool for their products and services. For instance, the internet is widely used in the business sector to enhance communication among stakeholders, clients, and investors. Despite being a powerful tool in the corporate sector, misuse of the internet has also led to the emergence of cyber-crimes such as forgery, mischief, defamation, and fraud. As a result, cyber laws have been made to prevent such cyber-crimes. In essence, the cyber law attempts to incorporate the challenges brought by human activities on the internet with legacy system of legislation relevant to the physical world. Cyber law has also helped in improving the security and privacy of health information, children education records, and consumer financial information (Spinello, 2006).
With the current trends in the business world, IT has become an important tool for every business plan. Information technology plays an important role for multi-national firms who use mainframe systems and databases to small companies who own a single computer. Therefore, in this scenario, the IT structure will flow in a sequence manner from chief information officer, information security officer then to director of information security (Singh, 2010). With this structure in place, the IT department will be able to improve the safety and privacy of organization’s clients and customers. IT structure is also crucial since it helps the organization to mitigate risks, data breaches, and cyber-attacks.
