Substance abuse in prisons is a significant nuisance because many incarcerated inmates have a history of drug abuse. Accordingly, prisons have made necessary rehabilitation facilities and centers to reform drug addicts by providing diverse intervention programs, such as detoxification and psycho-educational groups (Lee et al., 2020). A tour of a drug rehabilitation facility provides an exposure some of these rehabilitation interventions and programs, including detoxification, intensive inpatient and outpatient treatment, aftercare, psychopharmacology, and psycho-educational groups.
Detoxification
The intervention is an effective substance rehabilitation intermediation. It entails managing inmates with drug addiction with measures focused on minimizing acute withdrawal and intoxication issues. The intervention enables addicted inmates to eliminate toxins associated with substances from their bodies and live freely without experiencing relapses and dependence on drugs (Lee et al., 2020). Detoxification can be used in medical holding cells in rehabilitation facilities or correction centers because most inmates in these facilities are highly dependent on substances, such as cocaine and other hard drugs. Detoxification will eliminate toxins associated with substance abuse and enable the victims to recover from addiction and lead better and fulfilling lives in prison and after release.
