The Act prohibits the discrimination of a person on account of the following protected characteristics, namely sexual orientation or sex, religious belief, race (national or ethnic origin, nationality, colour, and race), disability, being on maternity leave or pregnant, being in a civil partnership or married, gender reassessment, and age (GEO, 2013). The law prohibits discrimination against a person in the workplace, consumers, in education, buying or renting property, when utilizing public services, or as a member of a club or association as a member or guest.
