The department of Homeland Security collaborates with the private sector to detect, protect, and respond to security threats that disrupt the water and wastewater sector and energy sector (The United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2015). Notably, public access to clean drinking water is a State initiative that ensures a healthy society out of diseases and malnutrition. Consequently, it is imperative to address the development agenda without considering security threats that disrupt water and wastewater and energy sectors. Besides, the government and organizations must enhance resilience against cyberattacks, terrorism, and natural disasters.
According to Hall et al. (2014), critical infrastructure plays an active role in the welfare of natives and the country at large. However, there is a global crisis on the State and utility of the underlying water and wastewater sector and energy sector. There is an urgent concern to refurbish aging critical infrastructure systems while abetting the emerging technology and climate-based changes in the current society. Surprisingly, the areas comprise interconnected departments that must function in harmony to realize the detection, prevention, and response mission towards security threats. This paper, therefore, explores the involvement of the Department of Homeland Security to detect, protect and respond to security threats that disrupt the water and wastewater sector and energy sector, cyber attacks, terrorism, and natural disasters.
