In the Juvenile System in the United States, ethnic and racial disparities in the criminal justice system have been a well-researched occurrence. The ethnic and racial disparities occur in every processing stage of justice and worsen as children continue deeper into the system. The stages of juvenile justice that are crucial in producing disproportionate treatment of children due to color include prevention programs for the youths who are at risk. At this stage, the juvenile system is in a position to investigate child welfare rather than by race or ethnicity. Secure detention and adjudication stages are the other essential stages that could be used to prevent the youths from instances of committing racism.
The cumulative disadvantage is a theory that emphasizes how early disadvantage or advantage is critical regarding how cohorts are differentiated over time (Zane et al., 2022). An example of cumulative is a situation where it was found that being black has both positive and negative effects on different stages of life. Highly educated blacks received lower status returns compared to highly educated whites (Abrams et al., 2021). Cumulative disadvantage ensures that the juvenile system applies DMC to the specific minority group. DMC requires the juvenile system to address racial disparities without referring to the numerical standards; hence, it is related to cumulative disadvantage.
